Westbury Friends School is a culturally diverse Quaker school. It was founded over
50 years ago, in 1957. This year WFS is celebrating its 50th
anniversary. The school was started by the members of Westbury Monthly
Meeting under whose care the school still exists. The school opened with 16
children, including four from Quaker families, and has expanded in size and
scope in order to meet the needs of the large community which WFS now
represents. Families from 32 surrounding communities come to school here
because of the remarkable educational program that the school has promoted.
The school starts with children from age 3 - our Nursery program and goes
through Grade 6, Grade 6 having been added on in 1978.
WFS is a non for
profit educational corporation, chartered by the New York State Board of
Regents. It is a part of the New York State Independent Schools and has been
accredited by them as well, through a peer review system. The school also
belongs to the Friends Council on Education which accredits schools with
Quaker affiliation.
WFS expanded from its original center
building, to add on five new classrooms and a beautiful new Library/Media
Center. The Library/Media Center has allowed the school to extend its
academic horizons through the use of an advanced technology program.
Founded on the basis of the furtherance of
the continuing Quaker dedication to education and diversity, WFS continues
along this path.
