The
faculty and staff at Westbury Friends School represent a dedicated
community of professionals, spanning from one member who has been here
for 22 years to two new teachers who have begun in 2007. For a school
that has just last year celebrated its 50th anniversary, the stability
of the teachers and staff has been remarkable: the average length of
time at the school is 9 years. Experts in their fields of study, with
solid academic and professional experience, they represent the core
of Westbury Friends School 's leadership in education.
Educators from universities,
colleges, and peer schools routinely visit Westbury Friends School for observations
and meetings, and members of the Westbury Friends School participate in educational
conferences in the wider East Coast academic community. The
faculty and staff at Westbury Friends School take pride in being a model group of professionals. All staff members
are certified in their area of expertise. However, Westbury Friends School selects teachers not only for their academic competence but for their
concern for children and their concern for promoting in children a sense
of self worth and of the worth of others. The staff is also involved
in modeling for children behaviors that promote nonviolent ways to resolve
conflict as well as those behaviors that promote critical thinking skills
and important decision-making skills.
